Literacy and Language

The College of Education is a leader in addressing the barriers that prevent many students from reading and writing at grade level. Our faculty and staff are at the forefront of literacy and language acquisition research, developing equity-focused strategies, curricula and interventions that empower all youth to succeed. Our academic programs prepare students with the knowledge, tools and culturally responsive practices they need to effectively teach literacy in diverse classrooms. By understanding how students learn to comprehend and use language, we create solutions that increase literacy rates and close persistent equity gaps so that every student has the opportunity to thrive academically.
